Buhay Talaan ni Felipe - 2

Mamaalam, tala kong may ngiti, saglit lamang, may huling habilin, sa gitna ng yong paglalakbay, sa dako mong ihihimlay dalhin ang payapa't pangakong wagas. Patawad. May lunas pa araw nananamlay mong diwa s'yang may gamay ng malay mong tilang hiram. Itong minamataa, daang tinitimbang, dala, tang kong alay. Mamaalam sa mundong kay lupit, sadya kayang nilihis sa pait. Sa gitna ng yong paghihimlay, manlako kang maghihintay. Dalhin sa paaglitis. Taglay ng tamis. Paalam. ["Alay," Aia de Leon]

Get Lifted

The personification of the word cool has to be someone who has a huge, if not the complete, part in creating the character as people identify him and her to be. Where TALENT has a colossal part of it. And acting-up is out of the question. In my own little world of make believe, I have considered just a number of people as cool.

I think Erykah Badu is cool. She's funny. She's got her own style. She's non-traditional. And she has real talent. However, not everyone puts attention to it. And Erykah's not the kind of girl who would change her musical style just to satisfy the flow of mainstream. For many years now, though I haven't seen her on stage yet, I have admired this woman as a true performer. Listening to her CDs was enough for my Sunday soul.

Enter John Legend. I just got his CD Get Lifted this afternoon and started playing it in my car soon after. I would describe him as the male counter part of both Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill. Well, maybe more of Lauryn. I first heard about him about 2 weekends ago on TV. He was singing "Ordinary People" and somehow he got my attention. The video was great. The music was great too. But there was something with the blending of the song with his voice. There was life. And it was coming from the soul. His soul. And listening through his album is like reading his own life story only the listener can understand.

Real music. Real sound. Real songs. And nothing but pure talent. And... he's cute too!
